Collection: Daniel Garver
Daniel Garver is originally from Madison Wi, and holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (2011). As an undergraduate Daniel majored in studio ceramics and minored in art history. In 2009 he studied in Cortona Italy for one semester through the University of Georgia study abroad program. Upon completing his undergraduate studies Daniel relocated to North
Carolina where he worked for several ceramic artists including Jason Burnett, Courtney Martin, and Jeannine Marchand. In 2015 he was selected for a 2-year Fellowship at the Penland School of Crafts. During this Core Fellowship the unrestricted exploration of craft and material studies radically shifted his practice to focus primarily on drawing and textiles. In 2017 Daniel
completed the Penland Fellowship and spent the remainder of the year traveling to the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and residencies at A-Z West, The Bright Angle, the Jentel Foundation, and the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Daniel currently lives and works in Silver City, New Mexico.
Notes from the Artist
These ceramic works are an exploration in function and design. They are cast with porcelain from a simple modular plaster mold system in which a variety of mold parts are readily interchangeable. The simple structural forms are placed in conversation with the fluid glaze patterns that shift and melt through the firing process. Resulting in functional cups that have structure and pattern in tandem.
